Without science, we wouldn’t be where we are today. Just about every aspect of our lives has been influenced by scientific discoveries in some way, from the internet-connected devices we use for communication to the vehicles we use for transportation, the medicines we take to feel better and so much more. Throughout history, the human species has gradually evolved and learned more about the world. Thanks to the knowledge and application of science, we’ve been able to push things forward, break boundaries and develop at an exceptionally fast pace. We take so many things for granted that, if it wasn’t for science, we wouldn’t have. Things like smartphones, TVs, advanced healthcare, public transport and computers all play a part in our lives and are all present in our lives thanks to science.
Appreciating Scientific Contributions
A key purpose of our blog is to encourage people to appreciate science more. It’s very easy to accept things and welcome them into our lives without knowing the history behind those things and how they’ve come to be. With our blog, we hope to make our readers appreciate that behind every modern convenience, there’s a story. Behind every sort of scientific advancement there’s a person or a group of people who have come up with ideas and put them into practice. What many people don’t realise is just how much work goes into something that can appear to be simple and basic. Things like the camera, for example. So much work goes into developing ideas, then taking those ideas and using them to create something practical. Then, once the first step is made, there are all sorts of further advances that add to the initial discovery. With cameras, we’ve gone from large mechanical contraptions that took black and white photos on a timer, to highly detailed digital photos that can be taken in an instant with phones and tablets. Scientific discoveries don’t just give us great things, they continue to make those things even greater.
